Good day opponauts - I need a bit of help.

I had made a post a while back about an S10 build with my boys. That build is underway and we decided to go the 3800 S/C route out of a 2002 Grand Prix GTP.

Now, I’ve already looked into ZZPerformace for different parts. I was curious for people more familiar with these motors - is it possible to get 500 reliable HP out of the supercharger, or is going turbo my best option. I ask simply because I’d rather keep the S/C for stupid aesthetic reasons, and I love the sound. Everywhere I’ve looked online says the best route for HP is turbo, but I really don’t want to do that.

I’ve seen info regarding the Gen III S/C swap, as well as the M112 off the Cobra’s, finding a used Whipple kit, and finally, if I really wanted to blow cash, there are companies in Australia that I can order parts from, but I’d really rather not go down that rabbit hole.

So here is the goal: 500HP from a 3800 Series II motor (S/C preferred).
RWD application - trans is a mild 4L80E (mostly stock) that was a junk yard pull with a basic refresh and into a GM 8.5" 10 bolt 3:42 rearend.

I feel like it isn’t reasonably feasible. That being said, a longitudinal application will help because you won’t be dealing with the bullshit exhaust issues of a transverse layout. To even get close to making this work every part will have to be perfect and extremely well thought out.

Warshrike would be a good one to ask, I think his F-body has a pretty well built 3800 IIRC.

I think you should go for it, but don’t be super disappointed if you only manage 400 or something like that.

Much appreciated. I’m not expecting miracles, it’s just that the 3800 is new territory for me. This is going to be a street truck, so I don’t need extreme levels of performance here, just something a little different.

There is a guy on the SyTy forums who built a non-S/C F-body 3800, but went the turbo route, and seemed to get very decent performance.

It’s a great engine for sure. Reliable and easy to work on. Just watch out for knock retard because that will kill then in a hurry. So a good tune and good build should be fine. I feel like 350-400hp is about right for one of these timing a supercharger, but I haven’t played with them in years so can’t remember for sure.
